Course Description:

This course is an examination of human relations theory and individuals, groups, and organizational performance in relation to organizational structure in contemporary business and public agencies. It is an interdisciplinary field, drawing from concepts from a variety of subject areas. Covered are personality and attitudes, work motivation, interpersonal and group processes, organizational design and development, and decision making.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Define organizational behavior
• Trace the historical roots of organizational behavior
• Discuss the emergence of contemporary organizational behavior, including its precursors, the Hawthorne studies, and the human relations movement
• Describe contemporary organizational behavior
• Identify and discuss contextual perspectives on organizational behavior
