The purpose of this course is to familiarize you with the general examination and collecting procedures of the IRS. In this course I summarize parts 4 and 5 of the Internal Revenue Manual. For part 4 I focus on general examination information, which is section 4.2.1. Under that section, I focus on the section titled notification of assessment statute expiration and acceptance of voluntary payments on expired statue returns when taxpayer was contacted for examination. For part 5 of the manual, I focus on the collection process, section 5.1.19, which is titled Collection Statute Expiration. Under this section, I discuss the collection statute overview, transaction codes that affect the CSED (Collection Statute Expiration Date), transaction codes (TCs) that carry their own CSED, waiver definer codes, and case actions that can suspend and/or extend a CSED. |
